That's correct. Z is used to pick up items dropped by monsters. You can also use 0 on the number pad. As for X, you use that to sit on a chair, which lets you recover much faster.

If you see a chair or a bench, you can sit on it. Unfortunately, you won't find any chairs in Maple Island. You'll have to head over to Victoria Island to do that. When you find one, press X, and you'll recover much faster!

You can raise your ability stats using the AP you earn each time you level up. To check your AP, simply press S.

I is used to check your item inventory. It is one of the most useful functions in the game.
